Online Book Club
This year we are offering a new way to participate in a Carroll Public Library Book Club, open to anyone who would like to respectfully join the conversations. This will not in any way replace the two in-person book clubs offered monthly at the library – it is an entirely new service!
There are a lot of reasons that people aren’t able or don’t want to participate in a traditional, in-person book club, such as how busy you are with other commitments, work hours that don’t align with our scheduled book club times, you don’t feel comfortable with public speaking, you don’t like the books that were chosen, and more.
So how does Online Book Club help with these issues?
- Our Online Book Club format is open 24/7 for you to make comments or read through conversations – which can be on your lunch break, while you are waiting to pick up the kiddos from an activity, in the middle of the night when you can’t sleep, or after you are home from work and changed into your pajamas so you definitely aren’t leaving the house for the rest of the night!
- Interacting in online forums can be easier for some of our fellow introverts out there.
- After the initial book club selections chosen by the librarians, the group gets to vote on what they want to read next.
- Unlimited e-books will be available for those within the Carroll Public Library’s service area (if you are able to use Libby through the Carroll Public Library).
- Physical books will be available at the library.
- When possible, you can also check out these titles on Libby.
- There will be 5 book clubs scheduled throughout the year – each selection running for around 9 weeks. So you don’t have to be a speed reader to be able to have time to get the book completed on time!
