The Carroll Public Library has a collection of more than 86,000 items including books, cassettes, videos, CDs, DVDs, magazines, newspapers, and microfilm. The Library also has 14 internet-connected computers. Carroll Public Library is now wireless. Use your own laptop and enjoy internet access.
Carroll Rec Center
The Carroll Recreation Center is an important assett to the community. The building alone offers: an olympic size swimming pool, outdoor wading pool & sun deck, four locker rooms, racquet ball courts, exercise room with Cybex equipment, free weights, 11,500 square feet gymnasium, 400 seat theater, meeting room with a kitchen and more!
The Parks and Recreation department is responsible for 13 parks throughout the city. These parks have a lot to enjoy including: basketball courts, disc golf, enclosed and open-air shelters, picnic areas with tables and grills, playgrounds, sledding hills, softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, volleyball courts, skate park, and more.
With the growing popularity of skateboarding and inline skating the City of Carroll has built a state of the art skate park to accomodate the community. This great attraction is built with rails, stairs, ramps and many other great features for people to enjoy. Made out of strong concrete, this park is going to provide years of enjoyment.
The historic 1949 Merchant's Park built for Carroll's semi-pro team (Merchants) is a unique site for some of the finest high school, college & semi pro baseball in Iowa. In addition to regular season games for both local high schools, many tournaments are played on one of the state's finest fields. Plans are progressing for a full restoration of this wonderful, fan-friendly ball park.
Carroll Depot was designed by Charles Sumner Frost, a noted Chicago architect who designed 200 rail depots for the Chicago & North Western Railroad in the Midwest. He also designed the Chicago Navy Pier and Navy Pier Terminal building in 1916. The 1st Depot built in 1867 burned down and was rebuilt in 1879. Contruction of the current Carroll Depot was completed in 1879.
Swan Lake State Park is a 510 acre area with tent and trailer camping. Electrical hookups are available, as are drinking water fountains, showers, flush toilets, picnic grounds, cross country skiing, hiking, bridle and snowmobile trails, a swimming beach, baseball and winter sports, and a nature center with programs, especially on weekends.
