DispatchCommunications for the Carroll Police Department are provided by the Carroll City/County Communications Center, which is governed by the Carroll City/County Communications Commission.  The members of the Commission are appointed, two by the City of Carroll and three by the Carroll County Board of Supervisors.

The communications center provides central communications functions for the Carroll Police Department, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, the Coon Rapids Police Department, the Manning Police Department, the Carroll County Ambulance Service, all County first responders, and all fire departments within Carroll County.  The communications center also answers all 911 calls from within Carroll County.  Additionally, the communications center provides paging functions for local Magistrates, a juvenile probation officer, Department of Human Services Case Workers, probation officers, civil defense sirens, civil defense indoor warning receivers, and 24 hour on-call wrecker services.

The communications center has a staff of five full-time and two part time/relief dispatchers.  One of the full-time dispatchers also serves as the Dispatch Supervisor.  All personnel are trained and certified through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and attend other specialized training including, but not limited to, Emergency Medical Dispatch and Basic Iowa Systems Training.  Additional training is received through attendance at specialized schools, seminars and in-service training.

There is always at least one dispatcher on duty, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  During peak activity hours there is usually an additional dispatcher on duty to help answer telephones and/or radios. Duty shifts consist of 8 and 10 hour overlapping shifts which provide maximum coverage and schedule flexibility.

Hours of Operation:

The Carroll City/County Communications Center is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.  Dispatchers may be contacted by telephone at the numbers shown above.  The communications center is located in the basement of the Carroll County Courthouse.  The courthouse is open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.  To contact a dispatcher in person during non-office hours, please go to the south doors of the courthouse and contact the dispatcher via the intercom located in the hallway.
